Will never return.
Chef Rolph.
My wife and I had eaten here twice before with both times having a poor overpriced meal and we swore we would never go back. However, hurricane Irma forced us to once again go there for nourishment as it was one of the few places open once we returned home Tuesday evening. Yes, it was horrible again and this time we decided to let other know so as to hopefully spare them from bad food at high prices.
The Grouper special was good. The shrimp scampi was very good. The Tripletail special was very small potion and seasoning was uneven. The yellow rice was cold. After that the price was overcharged by $1.00. The beer specials were okay and the house sangria was good.
We had reservations for 6 on Thanksgiving and 4 of us ordered the turkey and the other 2 ordered the ham dinner. I've been cooking Thanksgiving dinner for over 30 years and should of that day bought a turkey breast and cooked it myself! When we got our plates of food it looked like someone (chef) had put a big spoonful of slop on our plates. The turkey not sliced was chunks of white and dark meat mixed with gravy and a few cubes of dressing. The mashed bacon potatoes made everything else taste like bacon. The vegetables green beans and carrots were like rubber. We got our cold dinner rolls half way through the dinner. We asked for glasses of water and my son had to go to the bar and get my husband a glass of water because my husband started choking on the turkey mixture because there was pieces of slimy turkey skin in the mixture.
This place is probably the most overrated restaurant in the area as they tout themselves as having great food but truly, it is not. If it were not for the snowbirds who don't know any better, this place would close it's doors as once a local eats there a couple of times it becomes crystal clear that the Saltwater Café is a horrible restaurant!
Service was fine, the rest of my party had a good experience with their food, but my stone crabs were just ok. I ordered mine cold, but they were served in a plate of mostly-melted ice. Also, the way they were cracked left too many tiny fragments of shell in the meat, which left me with an almost tooth-breaking experience. I'll go back, but I'll get the snow crabs instead.
What a disappointment for a Thanksgiving dinner for 6.
It was okay. We went for the sunset specials.
Residing one street away from Saltwater Cafe, we're often there for dinner. We've enjoyed their dinners and their Monday night lobster special many times before. Last night was a big disappointment. The lobster was tasteless, dry and cold. I can't understand why, unless it was boiled and left in water. The plate was very hot, but the lobster was not. I have never had such a dry and tasteless lobster before. We treat ourselves to a lobster dinner every couple of months and always enjoyed it. Except for last night. We're very disappointed in
My wife and I ordered a turkey club sandwich because we figured how bad can they screw that up. Well much to our surprise, they managed to screw it up big time. The bacon on the sandwich was RAW, I mean RAW! Naturally we did not eat it and when we asked for the check we informed our waiter of this and he just ignored the complaint and went ahead and charged my charge card for the full price of the meals without any consideration for having served us RAW bacon.
